Credit union supporters in Ohio, Ind., win primaries

May 4, 2022

Credit union supporters saw victories in Tuesday’s primaries in Ohio and Indiana, as all 19 credit union supporters in the two states won Tuesday. Candidates were supported by the Ohio Credit Union League, Indiana Credit Union League, and the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee.

This includes Rep. Shontel Brown, D-Ohio, who defeated Democratic primary challenger Nina Turner 65% to 35%. CUNA and the Ohio Credit Union League has supported Brown since her first special election to fill the seat in November 2021.

As of this week, 42 out of 43 credit union-backed candidates have been successful in the 2022 cycle. Complete results of Tuesday’s primaries, and future results, are available to view at cuna.org/elections.

CULAC, one of the five largest trade association PACs nationally, is the credit union system’s principal means of engaging in federal elections. CULAC works with state Leagues to identify, vet, and support candidates for Congress of either party who are supportive of credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.
