Washington, DC

Sixteen more credit union champions triumphed in primary elections across Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia on Tuesday. This year, 89 credit union champions have successfully advanced to the November general election.

Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) political action committee (PAC), and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) played a strong role in the following open seat races:

Katie Britt, R-Ala., headed into election day locked in a competitive three-way race. She now faces a runoff with Rep. Mo Brooks on June 21. Britt proved to be a strong credit union supporter while leading the Business Council of Alabama. CUNA and LSCU partnered on a member communication campaign urging 150,000 credit union members to vote for Britt.

CULAC and LSCU backed Republican Dale Strong in his race against five challengers in Alabama’s 5th Congressional District. He now faces a runoff election on June 21st against Casey Wardynski.

In Georgia, CULAC and LSCU supported Republicans Rich McCormick in the 6th Congressional District and Mike Collins in the 10th Congressional District. They now face June runoff elections against Jake Evans and Vernon Jones, respectively.

So far this year 98% of CULAC-backed candidates in called races have won their primary.

CULAC is one of the five largest trade association PACs and among the most bipartisan PACs in the country. CULAC works with state Leagues to identify, vet, and support congressional candidates who support credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.
