1,600 credit union attendees from 51 countries attend 2022 WCUC

July 21, 2022

The 2022 World Credit Union Conference concluded Wednesday with a Scottish-themed closing party that put the finishing touches on a spectacular four-day event at the Scottish Events Campus.

More than 1,600 credit union professionals from 51 countries attended the conference—the first held in person since WCUC 2019 in The Bahamas. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 World Credit Union Conference, with World Council of Credit Unions pivoting to a virtual conference in 2021 due to the pandemic.

WCUC 2022 featured more than 30 keynote presentations or breakout sessions from more than 50 speakers—on topics that included:

  • Digitalization
  • Cybersecurity
  • Regulation & Advocacy.
  • Financial Inclusion and Education.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Business Strategy & Influence.
  • Sustainable Finance.

A focus on Ukraine

With the world still focused on Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine, WCUC 2022 kicked off with a virtual speech from Sergiy Nikolaychuk, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, who discussed how the war has delivered a serious setback to the country’s credit unions..

Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) also welcomed members of World Council’s Credit for Agriculture Producers’ (CAP) Project team, who delivered a presentation on the bravery of credit union professionals and their members in Ukraine.

The Worldwide Foundation continues to raise money for its Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund, which is currently being tapped to provide relief aid to credit unions and their members and will provide long-term recovery and rebuilding aid once the war is over. WFCU has raised $1.7 million for the Displacement Fund since its launch on February 27.

Social media wall

WCUC 2022 also was a hit on social media—thanks in large part to a social media wall featured on monitors in our Solution Center. Our hashtag #wcuc2022 was featured on more than 800 Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn posts as of Thursday morning.

You can see all those posts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram by searching #wcuc2022.

Press coverage of the event was also strong. WCUC 2022 was featured in more than 120 articles published by over 20 news outlets across 10 countries.
