House remote notary vote, board governance markup this week

July 25, 2022

The House and Senate are in Washington D.C., this week. The House will consider the CUNA and League-supported SECURE Notarization Act of 2022 (H.R. 3962), which would allow for online notary services.

The bill passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee last week with a unanimous vote.

The House Financial Services Committee will mark up the CUNA and League-led Credit Union Board Modernization Act (H.R. 6889). The bill would modify the Federal Credit Union Act requirement that credit union boards meet no less than six times per year (from the current once per month).

It was introduced by Reps. Juan Vargas, D-Calif., and Anthony Gonzalez, R-Ohio, and Sens. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., Alex Padilla, D-Calif., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C. introduced the Senate version in May.

The markup is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET.

Other hearings CUNA is engaged with this week include:

  • Tuesday, 10:15 a.m. ET: Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing: “Fairness in Financial Services: Racism and Discrimination in Banking.”
  • Thursday, 10 a.m. ET: Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing: “Protecting Investors and Savers: Understanding Scams and Risks in Crypto and Securities Markets.”
