PODCAST: Serving the military community

Credit unions find local ways to serve veterans at home, in the office.

November 17, 2022

Whether it’s raising money for honor flights or creating supportive employee resource groups, credit unions have a long history of commitment to servicemembers.

In this episode of the CUNA News Podcast, leaders from Black Hills Federal Credit Union, GCS Credit Union, and VyStar Credit Union share how they serve their local military community.

The episode begins with Black Hills Federal’s April Meyerink. The senior business development officer discusses how the Rapid City, S.D., credit union supports the Veterans Community Project, a village of tiny homes that allows veterans to live independently.

GCS Credit Union’s Keith Burton and Candice Greene explain the Tee Up Fore Veterans Golf Tournament, their donations to the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight and Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, and what it means to give veterans a memorable experience. To honor former GCS board member Bert Enfield, Burton recently joined veterans on an honor flight to Washington, D.C.

VyStar Credit Union’s Maryanne Kolisnyk discusses how the Jacksonville, Fla.-based credit union’s veteran’s employee resource group brings staff together and increases support throughout the institution.

This is the second podcast episode in the 2022 Salute to Veterans, sponsored by FIS. Listen to the first episode here.
