Broadview Federal Credit Union donating $10,000 after Bills' playoff run

As long as the Buffalo Bills were in the playoffs, Broadview Federal Credit Union had something on the line.

The Bills' two-week playoff run led the $8 billion asset credit union in Albany, N.Y., to donate $10,000 to FeedMore WNY, a nonprofit organization that feeds homebound individuals and supports people in need.

“Fighting hunger remains a top priority for Broadview, and there’s no better way to do it than by supporting FeedMore WNY and jumping on the Buffalo Bills bandwagon,” Broadview CEO Michael Castellana says. “Of course, no matter who wins the game, the real winners are the individuals in need who receive fresh, healthy food and access to meals.”

The donation started when Broadview pledged to donate $125 for every point the Bills scored in the AFC wild-card round. Therefore, the credit union was scheduled to donate $4,250 after the Bills' 34-31 win on Jan. 15.

Broadview upped the ante in the divisional round, donating $250 per point in Buffalo's 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 22. While the two-week point total equaled a donation of $6,750, Broadview rounded its donation up to $10,000.

“FeedMore WNY is deeply grateful for the continued support of our partners at Broadview Federal Credit Union,” FeedMore Executive Vice President of External Affairs Lisa Woodring says. “This donation will allow us to provide nutritious food to children, families, and other adults facing food insecurity.”

FeedMore WNY provides support through nearly 300 pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, and other hunger-relief agencies throughout Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties.

"Through Broadview's donation and the incredible effort of people at FeedMore WNY, more people will have access to much needed food, and that's a big victory in the fight against hunger," Castellana says.

It was the third year of Broadview's Bills-related donation. However, it was the first year under the Broadview banner, as the credit union was created when SEFCU and CAP COM merged last year. SEFCU donated $15,000 and $20,000 to FeedMore in 2020 and 2021, respectively, making the total three-year donation $45,000.
