What workers want

Gallup report finds younger workers tend to be more stressed.

When considering a new job, younger workers place greater value on professional development, work-life balance, and workplace flexibility, while older generations hold a company’s brand reputation in higher regard, according to Gallup

Different generations’ top reasons for taking a job at a new organization, according to Gallup:

  • Increases my income or improves my benefits package significantly (67% of millennials vs. 61% of older generations).

  • Provides greater work-life balance and better personal well-being (65% of millennials vs. 58% of older generations).
  • Prioritizes diversity and inclusion of all types of people (45% of millennials vs. 39% of older generations).
  • Accelerates my professional or career development (37% of millennials vs. 20% of older generations).
  • Offers the option to work remotely from home some of the time (34% of millennials vs. 26% of older generations).
  • Allows me to work for a greater cause (33% of millennials vs. 27% of older generations).
  • Has a great reputation or brand (29% of millennials vs. 41% of older generations).

Younger workers tend to be more stressed than their older counterparts, Gallup reports. Sixty-eight percent of Generation Z and younger millennials report having stress compared to 63% of older millennials, 56% of Generation X, and 40% of baby boomers (“Engagement, burnout, and stress by generation”).
