PODCAST: Celebrating Women's History Month

Three female credit union leaders explore how previous generations have shaped their lives.

March 9, 2023

During Women’s History Month, people reflect on the courage of women from past generations and celebrate how their efforts have shaped them into who they are today.

“I look back at Louise Herring and some of the credit union founders and I think of what they did,” says Heather Walter, CEO at $163 million asset Advanz Credit Union in Louisville, Ky. “She was 23, and it makes me think we’ve got a lot of work to do yet in the industry to even come close to what the people before us did.”

Walter joins Lily Newfarmer, president/CEO at $122 million asset Tarrant County’s Credit Union in Fort Worth, Texas, and Jan Page, president/CEO at $193 million asset Community South Credit Union in Chipley, Fla., on the CUNA News Podcast to talk about Women’s History Month, women who have inspired them, their role as leaders, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and more.

The three women are all members of the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Alliance (CUWLA), which serves female CEOs at credit unions with less than $300 million in assets.
