Young professionals set new standard at Florida Advocacy Conference

April 17, 2023

More than a dozen Florida young credit union professionals traveled to Tallahassee earlier this month to participate in the League of Southeastern Credit Unions' (LSCU) annual Florida Advocacy Conference, the largest group of young professionals to attend one of the LSCU State Advocacy Conferences to date. Professionals travelled from Orlando, Tampa, and all across the Panhandle, including a large group representing the Northwest Florida Chapter of Young Professionals.

“It was great to be joined by so many of my peers in the credit union movement who are eager and willing to make a difference. As Young Professionals in Northwest Florida, we look forward to building upon this momentum and getting involved in other advocacy opportunities. Since leaving the conference, many of our members have discussed getting involved in local campaigns, hosting PAC fundraising opportunities, and more. We appreciate the League making this possible,” shared Laura Massimino, data analyst manager at Pen Air Credit Union and Past President of the Northwest Florida Chapter of Young Professionals.

The group met with members of the state legislature to highlight the credit union difference and advocate for key credit union priorities including public deposits, interchange, and Property Assessed Clean Energy Loans.

They also heard from the Office of Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Offices of Financial and Insurance Regulation, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, and many more.
