CUNA Promotes Abby Gunderson-Schwarz, Alexander Monterrubio

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) has promoted Abby Gunderson-Schwarz to Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Congressional Affairs and Alexander Monterrubio to Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Regulatory Affairs & Managing Counsel. 

Gunderson-Schwarz joined CUNA in February 2021 as Senior Director of Advocacy where she led lobbying efforts to the Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Monterrubio joined CUNA in July 2018 as Senior Director of Advocacy & Counsel where he led issues related to consumer protection laws and regulations. Both will continue to work closely with CUNA's advocacy team. 

“Abby has demonstrated her strong leadership, strategic thinking and responsiveness to legislative challenges during her time at CUNA. This is a well-deserved role for her,” said Jason Stverak, Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Federal Government Affairs.  

“Alex has a strong regulatory and legal acumen that helps us navigate the significant regulatory changes and challenges we face, while always keeping a strong focus on the impact to credit unions and the members we serve. We appreciate his impact to the team,” he continued. 

Prior to joining CUNA, Gunderson-Schwarz worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations and Monterrubio was the Director of Regulatory Affairs at the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU).
