Some highlights from the conference:
- Moody’s Analytics’ Marisa DiNatale, MDB Hampel LLC’s Bill Hampel, and Stifel’s Lindsey Piegza discussed the odds of a recession and ongoing struggles with earnings, liquidity, and high inflation, with Hampel saying, “The next couple years will be rough.”
- New York University Federal Credit Union’s Mira Ness, Stanford Federal Credit Union’s Paul Jockisch, and Skyla Credit Union’s Brett Fisher told attendees to be transparent with courtesy pay and suggested creative ways to generate noninterest income.
- McQueen Financial Advisors President/CEO Charley McQueen told attendees that investment portfolio management with an inverted yield curve is boring “because we need to do the basics.”
- Rodney Hood, NCUA board member and immediate past chairman, said credit unions are safe, sound, and “not seeing the contagion like at other financial institutions.”
- A panel of credit union and fintech leaders shared how collaboration and fintech partnerships can ease liquidity pressures and help credit unions win the battle for deposits.
- Lendkey Vice President of Strategic Accounts Amanda Bardonner explained how active listening can improve communication between the four generations in the workforce.
