Tennessee credit unions host legislators over August recess

August 14, 2023

Tennessee credit unions—in coordination with the Tennessee League—are hosting legislators to discuss the credit union difference over the August recess.

“It’s important for us to meet with our leadership both locally and nationally to let them know the challenges small credit unions face every day,” said Audrey Skeen, president/CEO of Knoxville Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union, who attended a meeting with Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn. “As well as how important it is to serve our membership’s financial needs on a daily basis and keep their best interest at heart.”

“Being in contact with our legislature and congresspersons is vital for them to gauge the pulse of what is important to our members and their credit unions,” said Ron Smith, president/CEO of Enbright Credit Union, and member of CUNA’s Board of Directors.

Enbright Credit Union hosted Rep. John Rose, R-Tenn., who introduced a bill to require Community Development Financial Institutions Fund transparency.

Credit union priorities included sharing the many issues with the big box interchange bill, which would risk many credit union credit card programs, and support for legislation to exempt loans made to veteran-owned businesses from the member business lending cap.
