Credit union advocates in both Georgia and Florida welcomed federal lawmakers for in-district meetings during the August recess. Coordinated by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU), U.S. Reps. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA 11) and Cory Mills (R-FL 07) discussed a variety of issues and concerns with credit union constituents.

“Our top priority included the Credit Card Competition Act, and both members share our concerns,” said LSCU Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Communications Grace Newcombe. “Data security was a key priority in both conversations as well. Both members understand that credit unions remain on the hook for merchant fraud.”

During the meeting with Rep. Mills, the veteran strongly supported the Veteran Member Business Loan Act (H.R. 4867 and S. 539), and recognized credit union financial literacy efforts for service members and their families.

Rep. Loudermilk previously introduced the Financial Reporting Threshold Modernization Act of 2021, which was supported by CUNA, the League and credit unions, and would have modernized the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) reporting thresholds for the first time since 1970.

LSCU has plans for more in-district meetings with lawmakers – including Rep. Neal Dunn (R- FL 02) next week.
