Adams: Financial literacy law ‘levels the playing field’

September 12, 2023

Credit Union League of Connecticut President/CEO Bruce Adams spoke to Fox 61 on the state’s recently enacted financial literacy bill. The bill—signed by Gov. Ned Lamont in July—requires completion of a financial management and financial literacy class to graduate starting in 2027.

“People need to learn how to make money, and how to mange money they make,” Adams said. “We think this requirement really levels the playing field of every student.”

The Credit Union League of Connecticut has been a longtime champion of this legislation, and Adams emphasized the importance of teaching good financial habits.

The story also highlighted a student-run branch of Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union at Rocky Hill High School, which will work in support of the new course, Principal John Fote said.
