Inclusiv to host Sept. 14 webinar on identity verification

September 13, 2023

Inclusiv will host its 2023 Juntos Avanzamos Hispanic Heritage Month opening webinar, “Removing Barriers for Financial Inclusion: Best Practices for Identity Verification and Mexican Matricula Consular,” Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. ET. It is free and open to all credit unions.

Pablo DeFilippi, EVP at Inclusiv Network, will speak with Charles A. Vice, director of financial technology and access at NCUA, about best practices for identity verification, and with Manuel Hernández Cárdenas Rodríguez, documentation consul at the Consulate of Mexico in Oxnard, about the Mexican Matricula Consular, its history, circulation, processes, security features and markers that make it be considered a primary identification for acccount opening purposes for thousands of financial institutions in the United States.

The Matrícula Consular is an inclusive identification document issued by the Mexican consular offices in the United States, Spain, and Costa Rica. This document certifies the nationality and identity of Mexican individuals residing abroad.

It is accepted as primary identification by thousands of financial institutions in the U.S., including credit unions and banks.

Identity verification is an integral part of the account opening process at credit unions. As credit unions work to remove the barriers to financial inclusion, and accept more types of identification for account opening, receiving guidance from the regulator insurer is important to balance their mission of inclusion, with regulatory requirements.
