Government funding, CBDC bill markup in Congress this week

September 18, 2023

The House will consider various legislation and the Senate will resume consideration of a “minibus” legislative package to fund the federal government past Sept. 30.

Sponsors of the big box interchange bill have filed it as an amendment to the funding legislation in the Senate, and CUNA is calling on all stakeholders to send messages of opposition to their senators through its Grassroots Action Center.

The House Financial Services Committee will also conduct a markup of legislation relating to the issuance of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), starting Wednesday.

Hearings CUNA is engaged with this week include:

  • Tuesday, 2 p.m. ET: House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy hearing, “A Holistic Review of Regulators: Regulatory Overreach and Economic Consequences.”
  • Wednesday, 10 a.m. ET: Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, “Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services.”
  • Wednesday, 10 a.m. ET: Senate Commerce Committee nomination hearing for Rebecca Kelly Slaughter to be a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission; Melissa Holyoak to be a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission; Andrew Ferguson to be a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission; and Douglas Dziak to be a commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission
