October 26, 2023

Recognizing the pivotal role played by young professionals in strengthening the credit union industry, the MD|DC Credit Union Association hosted its annual YP Summit last week. Momentum 2023 brought together 80 young professionals from over 20 credit unions, providing them with a unique opportunity to expand their networks, gain essential industry knowledge, and engage in impactful discussions.

“Our YP Summit is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of credit union leaders,” said John Bratsakis, president/CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association. “As an Association, we are committed to providing young professionals with exceptional learning, growth, and development opportunities. We want to thank First Financial Federal Credit Union for hosting the event at their headquarters and we appreciate the generous support of our sponsors.”

Speakers and panelists delivered invaluable insights into leadership, mentorship, personal development and navigating career opportunities.

“Momentum 2023 provided invaluable takeaways, both as a panelist and attendee,” said Paul Farrell, Digital Marketing Specialist, Lafayette FCU and MD|DC Credit Union Association 2023 Emerging Leader Award winner. “I left the Summit feeling inspired, and motivated to continue making an impact in the credit union movement. I walked away with tangible steps to advance my career and grow my team after hearing the perspective of C-Suite industry leaders, the career coaching session, and getting the chance to connect with young professionals in the industry.”

"We are thrilled by the incredible turnout and enthusiasm at this year's YP Summit,” said Jordan Burroughs, VP of Member Engagement, MD|DC Credit Union Association. “We look forward to building on the momentum generated by the summit, and all the other engagement and education programs offered through our Young Professionals Network.”

In honor of International Credit Union Day, which also happened to be day two of the summit, young professionals collected 130 pounds of food that was donated to the Maryland Food Bank.

The YP Summit sponsors included: First Financial FCU, Educational Systems FCU, Visa, Alloya, ThinkStack, and AffirmX.
