Maxwell, Herring Winners Honor Duty to Serve

CUs demonstrate dedication to social responsibility, CU philosophy.

Winners of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award and The Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award demonstrate a dedication to social responsibility—working to better their communities and improve the financial health of their members.

The Maxwell Award is presented to credit unions and a credit union chapter for outstanding social responsibility projects in their communities. Activities include: solving core community problems, coordinating supply drives for the needy, raising money or organizing special events for charitable organizations, and mentoring students.

This year’s first place winners include:

  • Virginia United Methodist CU, Glen Allen, Va.;
  • Casco FCU, Gorham, Maine;
  • Natco CU, Richmond, Ind.;
  • Lake State CU, Moose Lake, Minn.;
  • CU of New Jersey, Ewing, N.J.;
  • FAA CU, Oklahoma City;
  • MECU of Baltimore; and
  • Utica-Rome (N.Y.) CU Chapter.

The Herring Award is given to a credit union demonstrating the internal application of credit union philosophy to help better financial matters and increase financial education for its members. Examples include: exceptional member service, financial counseling for members experiencing difficulties, and educating members on the credit union difference.

This year’s first-place winners include:

  • City Co FCU, Pittsburgh;
  • Carolina Postal CU, Charlotte, N.C.;
  • Michigan FCU, Lathrup Village, Mich.; and
  • Hanscom (Mass.) FCU, Hanscom Air Force Base.

The winners will be honored at a GAC reception. All winning entries are on display during the GAC in the Welcome Center.
