KCUA's CUlead gets close up with co-ops
WICHITA, Kan. (4/28/15)--CUlead, a one-year leadership development program organized by the Kansas Credit Union Association, held its second session this month, and the up-and-coming credit union leaders picked for the inaugural program spent much of their time learning about the cooperative credit union model.
First, students received a history lesson on the credit union movement.
Then, once they had gained an understanding of where the industry has come from, they were asked to chart where the movement is going, given the evolving landscape of the financial services industry.
Following the morning session, the class took a tour of the agricultural-based Mid Kansas Cooperative to learn about how collaboration among all cooperatives can benefit the communities in which they operate.
The next day, the class participated in a session on effective leadership and learned how to grapple with conflict and drama. Students practice leadership skills through role-playing scenarios.
The next CUlead session, which will focus on effective communication, will take place in June.
