CU-backed high-schoolers place high in Fed bank contest

BOSTON (4/14/15)--Credit unions were well represented last week in a Massachusetts competition for student-run financial institution branches.

The annual competition was sponsored by the Massachusetts School Bank Association and hosted by the Boston Federal Reserve Bank, the Cooperative Credit Union Association reported (Daily CU Scan April 13).
More than 20 high schools were represented by Massachusetts credit unions and banks. They participated in a three-part competition that included a trivia bowl, a marketing collateral competition, and a product development competition.
Participating credit unions and high schools included:
  • Worcester (Mass.) CU, Worcester Technical High School;
  • Metro CU, Framingham, Peabody High School and Chelsea High School;
  • Leominster (Mass.) CU, Clinton High School;
  • Jeanne D'Arc CU, Lowell, Dracut High School and Lowell High School; and
  • Workers' CU, Fitchburg, Chelmsford High School.
The winners of the 2015 competition included: Peabody High School, first place, and Dracut High School, second place, in the marketing competition, and Peabody High School for first place in the product development competition. In addition, both schools had winners in the essay contest and scholarship awards.
