January 14, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (1/15/15)--The deadline is approaching for credit union leaders and supporters to purchase their sponsorships and tickets for the 27th annual National Credit Union Foundation Dinner Presenting the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards.

The dinner will take place March 9 at the Marriott Marquis in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C.

"You don't want to wait any longer to ensure your seat at this inspiring event," said Gigi Hyland, the foundation's executive director. "Overall, ticket sales are tracking better than ever and we've already sold out of the top sponsorship level for what many refer to as the 'Academy Awards"' of the credit union movement. We hope to see you there to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of this year's Wegner Award winners."

The awards ceremony celebrates the highest national honors in the credit union movement. The 2015 honorees are:

  • Lifetime achievement: Mike Mercer, president/CEO of Georgia Credit Union Affiliates;
  • Lifetime achievement: Bob Schumacher, retired president/CEO of MountainCrest CU, Arlington, Wash., with $87 million in assets;
  • Lifetime achievement: Clarence Hall Jr., CEO/chairman of Issaquena County FCU, Mayerville, Miss., with $1 million in assets; and
  • Outstanding Organization: Iowa Credit Union League.

For the first time in seven years, the dinner has moved locations, this time to the new Marriott Marquis located directly across from the Washington Convention Center. Denise Gabel, chief operating officer of the Northwest Credit Union Association, will be returning as the evening's emcee.

Whether attending the dinner or not, members of the credit union movement and other affiliated organizations also have the opportunity to recognize and congratulate award winners through a congratulatory message to be shown on the video screens during dinner.
