NCUA and other regulatory agencies recognize the serious impact of Hurricanes Fiona and Ian on members and operations and encourage institutions operating in the affected areas to meet the financial services needs of their communities.

NCUA reminds federally insured credit unions impacted by Hurricanes Ian and Fiona of the availability of urgent need grants for eligible low-income institutions of up to $7,500 to low-income credit unions that experience sudden costs to restore operations interrupted storms.

NCUA’s Office of Consumer Financial Protection and Hispanic Employee Resource Group, CULTURA, are hosting a virtual roundtable Oct. 6 in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Registration for the How Credit Unions Empower Hispanic Consumers and Communities virtual roundtable is now open. 

The National Credit Union Foundation has committed up to $250,000 from its CUAid program to support Puerto Rico-based credit union employees and volunteers affected by Hurricane Fiona. The grant will be made to the Inclusiv Network, which will then manage individual donations.

Twenty-five credit union professionals and directors have been named Credit Union Rock Stars 2022, outstanding credit union professionals and board members from a wide range of disciplines who use their unique strengths to advance the missions of their credit unions.

Credit Union Awareness announced increases in membership in states where the program is launched. States where the program has had robust credit union engagement, credit unions have seen 20% more memberships each year than non-participating states.

LEVERAGE announced a new partnership with Active.Ai, an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) program that enhances communication methods for credit unions by providing a highly personalized conversational experience designed to anticipate needs and effectively answer questions.

CrossState Credit Union Association Chief Regulatory Officer Nicola Foggie joined Pennsylvania state Rep. Rosemary Brown recently on Pennsylvania Newsmakers to discuss the importance of saving on overall financial health. 

Filene Research Institute, the Cooperative Trust, and CUNA announced Crash the GAC is bringing back its 14th cohort to Washington D.C. Applications for Crash the GAC are now open and the deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 2.

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions and member credit unions met Alabama Gov Kay Ivey and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in recent weeks to discuss the credit union difference and advocacy priorities.
