The U. S. House of Representatives Tuesday passed H. Res. 77, expressing the sense of Congress that “financial institutions and other companies should work proactively with their customers affected by the shutdown of the Federal Government.”
Credit union services to federal workers affected by the government shutdown continued to attract the notice of policymakers this week, with several referring constituents to CUNA, league and credit union resources.
CUNA sent information on credit union assistance efforts for members affected by the government shutdown to a group of five members of the Senate Banking Committee who reached out seeking information on assistance to federal workers.
Without having been asked by the government, credit unions are doing the right thing and assisting the federal workers furloughed by the federal government shutdown, CUNA wrote to Rep. Maxine Waters, chair of the House Financial Services Committee.
Legislators around the country continue to send furloughed federal workers to local credit unions for financial assistance as the government shutdown continues, and are also thanking local credit unions and leagues on social media.
