CUNA sent information on credit union assistance efforts for members affected by the government shutdown to a group of five members of the Senate Banking Committee who reached out seeking information on assistance to federal workers.
Credit unions in every state, congressional district and community have been stepping up to serve workers affected by the government shutdown, CUNA has told Members of Congress in weekly communications throughout the shutdown.
Without having been asked by the government, credit unions are doing the right thing and assisting the federal workers furloughed by the federal government shutdown, CUNA wrote to Rep. Maxine Waters, chair of the House Financial Services Committee.
Legislators around the country continue to send furloughed federal workers to local credit unions for financial assistance as the government shutdown continues, and are also thanking local credit unions and leagues on social media.
