Credit union champions see wins in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia

May 25, 2022

Sixteen credit union champions in Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia saw victories Tuesday in primary elections. Candidates were supported by the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates and Cornerstone League.

This week’s elections bring the total number of credit union wins to 89 out of 96 races, with five races too close to call or in a runoff. Complete results can be found at cuna.org/elections.

In Alabama, credit union-backed Katie Britt advanced to a June 21 runoff for the Republican nomination for the state’s Senate seat that will be left open by the retiring Republican Sen. Richard Shelby. CUNA coordinated with LSCU on a six-figure targeted member communication supporting Britt, Shelby’s former chief of staff.

Elsewhere in the state, Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong advanced to a runoff for the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District.

In Georgia, CULAC and LSCU endorsed Republicans Rich McCormick in the 6th Congressional District, and Mike Collins, a credit union board member, in the 10th Congressional District.  Both candidates advanced to a June 21 runoff for their party’s nomination.

CULAC is one of the five largest trade association PACs and among the most bipartisan PACs in the country. CULAC works with state Leagues to identify, vet, and support congressional candidates who support credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.
