Washington, D.C. (June 26, 2018) – Today the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) are showing support for credit-union friendly congressional candidates in this week's primary elections. Key states include Colorado, Maryland, New York, Oklahoma and Utah with runoff elections in Mississippi and South Carolina.

CUNA and the Utah Credit Union Association are supporting former Massachusetts Governor and 2012 Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney for the vacant GOP primary seat currently being occupied by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

In Colorado, the Mountain West Credit Union Association is standing alongside Joe Neguse (D) who oversaw the state's local credit unions while serving as the executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.

In New York, credit unions support incumbent Rep. Dan Donovan (R) who is being challenged by former Rep. Michael Grimm (R) in the state's 8th District. CULAC and the New York Credit Union Association are also supporting New York Assembly Leader Joseph Morelle (D) in the state’s 25th Congressional District Democratic primary to fill the seat left open by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D) who passed away earlier this year.

In Oklahoma, CULAC and the Cornerstone Credit Union League stand alongside business owner Kevin Hern (R) in a five-candidate Republican primary to fill the seat for former Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R). Bridenstine has been confirmed as the administrator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Credit unions are also supporting candidates in Tuesday's runoff elections including District Attorney Michael Guest who will run against Whit Hughes in Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District. In the June 6 primary, Guest led all candidates with 45% of the vote to Hughes' 22%. In South Carolina, CULAC and the Carolinas Credit Union League support state Sen. William Timmons (R) in the 4th Congressional District runoff against former state Sen. Lee Bright (R) to fill the seat left open by the retiring Rep. Trey Gowdy (R).
