Senate Confirms Hood, Harper for National Credit Union Administration

March 18, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 14, 2019

Washington, DC

Today the Senate voted to confirm Rodney Hood and Todd Harper to serve on the board of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The independent federal agency tasked with regulating credit unions will now have a full three-person board for the first time since April 2016.

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) believes a full Board is best suited to address the varied issues facing the credit union industry. Hood, whose term extends to 2023, will replace board member Rick Metsger, whose five-year term expired in August 2017. Harper, whose term extends to 2021, will take the seat of former board chair Debbie Matz, who retired in April 2016.

“CUNA, leagues and credit unions congratulate Rodney Hood and Todd Harper for their confirmation as NCUA board members. We look forward to working with a full, three-person NCUA board on the issues most important to credit unions and their members,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “Both have impressive experience when it comes to working with not-for-profit financial cooperatives, and we’re hopeful the new board will continue NCUA’s modernization efforts to ensure it remains an efficient, effective regulator.”

Hood is currently the Corporate Responsibility Manager at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and was appointed by George W. Bush, confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2005 to a seat on the Board of NCUA. Harper served as the Director of Public and Congressional Affairs and as the Chief Policy Advisor to the Chairman at the NCUA.

Hood and Harper, in testimony before the Senate Banking Committee Feb. 14, shared their experiences and background in the financial services industry.

The NCUA plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and soundness of the credit unions. In a letter to the Senate Banking Committee, CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle highlighted recent NCUA actions that have been positive for credit unions and further outlined issues the agency can improve upon.
