Political insiders Chris Christie and Rahm Emanuel to speak at CUNA GAC

February 9, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 9, 2021
Washington, D.C.

Credit Union National Association announced today that former Governor Chris Christie and former Mayor Rahm Emanuel will join this year’s CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), March 2-4, for a lively point/counterpoint discussion tackling some of the issues driving Washington today, and how they’re likely to affect the communities and people credit unions serve. This keynote session is sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group.

“In today’s dynamic and highly partisan environment, we need to hear from leaders on both sides,” stressed Todd Spiczenski, Chief Products Officer at CUNA. “Chris and Rahm bring invaluable insights that will inform the system’s efforts and I have no doubt it will be a lively and thought-provoking discussion.”

Christie was governor of New Jersey where his focus was on fiscal responsibility, pension and health benefit reform, and combatting the opioid crisis. His efforts to rebuild the state after Superstorm Sandy set a bi-partisan example for storm recovery. Christie was appointed as Chairman of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis under the Trump administration. He is currently a commentator for ABC News, has a private law practice, and is the author of Let Me Finish, which chronicles his rise to power and the 2016 election.

Emanuel was the 55th mayor of the City of Chicago. During Emanuel’s tenure, Chicago achieved record education gains, led the nation in corporate relocations and foreign direct investment, and dramatically reduced its deficit. Emanuel was White House Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama, served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and was a key member of the Clinton White House. He is also the author of The Nation City, which provides a clear vision, for both progressives and centrists, for how to get things done in America today.

Typically held in Washington D.C., this year’s virtual conference will retain the key elements of the in-person conference: thought-provoking speakers, breakout sessions and opportunities to connect with lawmakers, business leaders, and credit union peers from across the nation.
