CUNA and the Iowa Credit Union League (and media consultant Sinclair Public Affairs) were recognized with a MarCom Gold Award for Best Association Member Communications Digital Ad Campaign. The ad was in support of Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, who was one of CUNA’s top priority races in the 2022 election and defeated challenger Liz Mathis with 55.2% of the vote.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for our work supporting the credit union movement. CUNA is committed to supporting policymakers that champion the credit union difference, and Rep. Hinson has done that throughout her time in Congress,” said Trey Hawkins, CUNA’s deputy chief advocacy officer for political affairs. “Our ads in support of Rep. Hinson highlighted her support of policies that improve consumers’ financial health.”
The ad recognized was part of CUNA’s and the Iowa Credit Union League’s member communication campaign, which used digital ads and direct mail to urge credit union members across Rep. Hinson’s district to vote for her re-election.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition for our Iowa credit union industry’s work to educate and engage members about issues that impact their financial lives,” said Murray Williams, president/CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League. “We were proud to partner with CUNA to help support those who champion the financial choice and wellbeing of Iowans, like Congresswoman Ashley Hinson.”
Hinson—first elected in 2020—introduced legislation to prohibit implementation of proposed increased Internal Revenue Service reporting requirements. She also visited Dupaco Community Credit Union with the Iowa Credit Union League in May 2021.
