Alabama credit unions are utilizing the August recess to hold in-district meetings and discuss key credit union issues with federal lawmakers. Credit union leaders hosted financial services staffers from Sens. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., and Katie Britt, R-Ala., this week to discuss interchange and other credit union legislative priorities.
Avadian Credit Union hosted Britt’s staffer, while All In Credit Union hosted Tuberville’s staffer.
Credit unions shared their support for the Veteran Member Business Loan Act (which has both House and Senate versions), Central Liquidity Facility flexibility, reforms to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act. An overview of credit union policy priorities is available online.
“Senator Tuberville has been an ally to credit unions since day one of being elected to the U.S. Senate. Whether it is cosponsoring legislation that would improve the operational efficiencies of credit unions or blocking harmful proposals, Senator Tuberville and his team are always dependable. Alabama credit unions are fortunate to have leaders committed to supporting small businesses, credit unions, and consumers in every corner of our state” shared Bobby Michael, CEO of All In Credit Union.
“Alabama credit unions are fortunate to have a staunch advocate in Senator Katie Britt and her entire team. A prominent member on the Senate Banking Committee, Senator Britt ensures Alabama ideals and our industry are consistently represented,” stated Linda Cencula, CEO of Avadian Credit Union. “We are most grateful for the Senator’s leadership and attention to our issues.”
The League of Southeastern Credit Unions is planning additional meetings, roundtables, and discussions with members of Congress over the August recess.
