The House voted Tuesday to remove Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in a 216-210 vote, the first time a speaker has been removed in U.S. history.
Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., is currently the acting speaker, as announced by the House clerk after the vote, and has the powers of an elected speaker.
