After decades in the credit union movement, Cornerstone Credit Union League President/CEO Dick Ensweiler retired at the end of April.

Prior to his work in the Southwest, Ensweiler served as the leader of the Minnesota and Illinois credit union leagues, as well as a senior vice president of corporate relations at CUNA Mutual Group.

He’s been involved with a long list of initiatives in the credit union movement and has been honored with countless awards, including the World Council of Credit Unions’ Ambassador and Distinguished Service Awards and the National Credit Union Foundation’s Herb Wegner Individual Achievement Award.

One of the keys to his success is his dedication to the job at hand, Ensweiler tells the CUNA News Podcast.

“When I tackle something, I do it with everything I have,” he says. “I give a lot of hours. I give a lot of care. I do a lot of coaching of my staff. I'm just really, really engaged.”

Ensweiler talked to the CUNA News Podcast a few weeks prior to his retirement and reflected on his life in credit unions.

“I'm ready, but it isn't something that I jump up and down and say, ‘Yay, it's over.’ Because I still believe in what we did and I'm so proud of where we've come,” Ensweiler says.
